Please join my mailing list to receive a notification when this class opens for registration.

In this class we will explore using simple abstract or non representational watercolor paintings and exploring ways to recreate them in fabric.

No watercolor or painting experience needed!

How online classes work

Once you have paid for the class you will receive an email from me with an invite to the class yahoo group where you can join to interact with the other students in the class and post photos of what you create.  The class group will stay open indefinitely.  Participation in the class group is optional.  Please note that due to time differences there may be a delay of 12-24 hours before you receive an email from me. If you do not receive it within 24 hours please email me directly at sue [!at] to let me know.

Lessons are written in pdf format and include step-by-step instructions and full-color photo illustrations. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher to be able to open the lessons. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free software that you can download from the Adobe website.

On the first day of class and on the same day of each subsequent week you will receive an email notifying you that a new lesson has posted that will include a link to a special webpage where you will be able to access and download the lesson to your own computer.  You can then print it out and work through the lesson at your own pace.

Lessons will remain available for download for four weeks after class has ended.

You are expected to have basic computer and Internet skills in order to participate in the class. You will need to have access to email and you should be able to browse the Internet, log in to a class web page using an ID and password as well as know how to download and save a document to your own computer.

Regarding copyright

Lesson 1: This lesson begins with an overview of all the tools and materials that you will have the option of working with in this class.   I’ll cover everything from paints, brushes and mark making tools to create your watercolor painting to the supplies you’ll work with when it comes time to translate your paintings into a piece of fiber art.  Then we’ll work through a series of easy exercises using watercolors to create some abstract paintings to work with in lesson 2.

Lesson 2:  This week we’ll spend some time analyzing what you like and don’t like about your paintings and you’ll choose one to work with.  Then we’ll discuss options for interpreting that painting into a piece of fiber art.  I’ll show you how to dye or paint your own fabrics to work with or you can work with commercially purchased fabrics if you prefer.

Lesson 3:  Now that your materials are all prepped and ready to use you’ll decide what you want to create and we’ll start the construction process .  I’ll show you how to create the journal that was inspired by my own watercolor painting.
