Mistyfuse Work Forward TechniqueMistyfuse Work Forward Technique

I learned this design transfer technique from Iris Karp of Mistyfuse. It’s an easy way to create an applique without having to mess about with reversing your design.  Here’s how it works:

Begin by tracing your design onto a piece of parchment paper using a pencil.

Trace

Fuse a layer of Mistyfuse to the wrong side of your fabric.  Place the fabric on top of your traced design with the Mistyfuse side against the tracing and iron with a hot iron on a firm surface.

Iron

When you peel back the fabric you’ll see that your design has been transferred to the back of the fabric.

Now all that’s left to do is to cut your design out on the transferred line, place it on the fabric that you want to use it on,cover it with a piece of parchment paper and iron.

Finished

Easy,no fuss and no reversing!

Tips:

If you’re using a dark fabric then trace your design onto the parchment using a light colored pencil so that the transferred design will show up better:

Alternatively, you can just place your Mistyfuse on top of your traced design  paper, cover it with Mistyfuse and then place your fabric on top and iron on a firm surface.
