I know it seems that I haven’t posted any new work lately and there’s a reason for that. It used to be that I’d get an idea and I’d jot down a couple of quick notes and then I’d dive right into a frenzy of fusing, cutting, painting and stitching and in no time at all I’d have a new piece finished but I wasn’t always entirely happy with the finished result and a lot of pieces ended up in the trash bin.
But over the last half of this past year I’ve shifted into taking a slower, more thoughtful approach to creating new artwork. Over the last few months I’ve spent a lot of time experimenting with dyes to create my own color palette of fabrics…
Which makes it easier for me to translate the ideas in my sketchbook into finished pieces and makes the final artwork feel more personal to me …
I’ve spent a lot of time trying different paints looking for the right combinations of colors, opacity, mediums and additives to give me the results that I want…
And I’ve discovered that sometimes machine stitching just won’t do and I’ve been less reluctant to break out the perle cotton and do some hand stitching …
Of course this slower approach to art making means there’s a lot less to blog about and longer periods of time between the unveiling of new pieces but I think it’s worth the wait.

The wait will be worth it,as the sneak peek is beautiful.
Sounds like the extra time is allowing you to feel really good about what and how you create! Sometimes things just pop out but,at least for me,most need time to grow and develop.
Slow is good…from one who is very deliberate…ie slow. But,it has always paid off for me….follow your instincts, the results will be worth it.
Definitely worth the wait. I love to hand stitch and feel it adds to most pieces.
I’m looking forward to seeing the finished pieces. I’m loving the copper piece with the hand stitch so far!
