I know it’s been a while since I’ve shown any new work. The sketchbook challenge project has been keeping me pretty busy and between that, working in my sketchbooks and starting some new pieces I haven’t had a lot of time for blogging lately. I have started a new piece in the corset series though and I thought I’d give you a little peek inside the process from the beginning on this one…
It starts with my studio sketchbook…
This is the book that I keep for developing and researching new work in. This is a new one that I recently started because the one that I had been working in was full. For this new piece I’ve stapled in some photos of aged metal surfaces to use as inspiration and I’ve made notes on some ideas for the corset. What you don’t see here is the page with some paint swatches and notes that I used to create the surface that I’ll be creating the corset with. Here’s a sneak peek at a piece of it…
More paint will be added to the surface once I’ve cut the pieces for the corset out of it. Waiting until then to add additional color will allow me to add highlights in areas that will enhance the overall piece. I’ll have more photos of this piece once the assembly has begun.
My radio interview with Artistically Speaking Radio is scheduled for Sunday the 16th at 6:30 eastern time! All the details about how you can listen to the show and submit questions live during the interview are here.

I love the texture! Can’t wait to see how you work on it.
Recording your techniques and samples and what does and does not work is so very important. Great to see your sketchbook. Looks like a wonderful addition to your corset series. Happy creating Sue…
This should be gorgeous! I sure like your idea of using a separate sketchbook for developing new ideas. I may adopt that idea so I’m not flipping through oodles of pages trying to find what it is I want to work.
Have fun with your radio interview! I hope to be listening.
It’s going to be a great corset.
Great start,Sue. I can visualize a corset with that texture.
