A couple of months ago I was wandering around TJMaxx and came across a nice denim jacket that I decided I had to have. It was just the right shade of blue and it was only $10. I bought it knowing that I’d end up altering it in some way because even though I liked it,I did think it was a bit boring as denim jackets go.
First I added some color to the collar. I used a variety of batik fabrics cut into strips and then fused to a base fabric using Mistyfuse. Then some detail zig zag stitching along the edge of each strip using some Superior metallic green thread. Unfortunately it doesn’t show the shimmer of the thread in the photo but trust me,it’s there. The jacket originally had some brass metal studs on the placket which are not really my style so I took those off and added the green pearl shell buttons which coordinate nicely with the green in the fabric.
I decided to keep it simple on the back and just added a strip of the batik fabrics in the center panel.
The sleeves were too long for me so I cut off the original cuffs and finished the ends of the sleeves with some more of the fabric

I love how you’ve jazzed up this jacket! I was just looking at one in my closet and wondering what I could do to it. Now I have some ideas a cookin’!
What a great personalized one-of-a-kind jacket! Very inspiring;I have a couple jackets hanging in my closet waiting for some special touches.
You have altered the plain denim jacket into the perfect classy feminine look. I like your color choices of fabrics and buttons. This is beautiful now. Happy creating…
That is going to be so much fun to wear. I love what you have done.
Oh,so adorable. I just gave my old, beloved denim jacket a wash and it’s hanging now to dry…I wish I had your sewing skills to alter it like you’ve done with yours. So cool.
I love this,but of course I would,being the denim-lover I am! Great jacket.

Inspirational. Now I know what to do with my old jean jacket, which also justifies the purchase of a new jean jacket

Sue,I like this idea….especially the sleeve. I have a couple of jackets where the sleeves are too long and this would be a great way to jazz them up…..thanks for the ideas!
Sue you knock me out!! I want to shop and alter with you!
Very pretty! Great way to take a plain jacket and jazz it up.
