Happy New Year everyone! I'm back from my short blogging break and I have to say it felt very strange not to be posting something every few days. I've been working on a few projects over the last couple of weeks and I just finished this one yesterday:
This is brown Ultrasuede stenciled with Lumiere paint. I had to buy 4 different shades of gold paint until I found the one that I thought looked the best against the light brown US. This bag is my own design,I call it a bucket bag and it stands about 11"high with about a 7"diameter. It has a drawstring close and the strap is adjustable in length. You can also wear it as a backpack by unhooking one side of the strap and feeding it through a loop in the back:
It looks like a complicated bag to make but it's actually quite easy. I originally designed this bag for a handbag class that I wrote when I first started teaching online. I did an article on making one with handwoven fabric for the Handwoven magazine Jan/Feb 2007 issue and Joggles still actually has some of the packaged patterns in stock. I love to make bags. They're one of my favorite things to design and sew. Maybe I should think about writing a new making bags and purses class. What do you think,is there any interest out there in learning to make bags and purses? Speaking of online classes, the Journal Making for the Fiber Artist class starts in just a few weeks.
I also put together some new notebooks because I had depleted my stash of the ones that I had during the Two Creative Studios 12 Days of Giveaways that Terri and I did.
I like to keep a stack of these on hand so that I always have something ready to send as a gift or giveaway.
Have a great weekend everyone!

could you say who won the grand prizes of classes in the Twelve Days giveaway?
happy new year Sue. the bag is lovely, well done. I am sure that a course would be very welcome, but how about taking it a step further and doing a book?
My BEST to you in 2009!! Hope to see you and Teri in Houston again!!
Hugs!
It’s a beautiful bag Sue. And your newest free project for the fiber cuffs is super cool –but I have a question about it. What kind of wire mesh do you recommend?
beautiful bag Sue. that shade of gold sits very well on the US.
Superb workmanship,Sue!
Beautiful,well-made purse,Sue! I love the stencilling and the little loop to turn it into a backpack is very clever!
I made my first purse this summer. I have a few patterns and also bought a book which looks really good called “the perfect bag”by Linda McGehee. I also have another purse in the making, the “grids and grommets”purse by,I think,Indygo Junction.

Happy New Year Sue,with lots of artistic moments..
Yummy! Looks like you could dive into that backpack and live there!
Every time I check your blog,I get a glimpse of what a true artist is like…..you just keep creating wonderful things. Love the bag,the stenciled US,the journals, the whole package. Maybe one day I will be so motivated.
I love how you handled the straps! I’ve had something similar in mind for my shower curtain project
You sure got back in gear quickly! Love the bag and really like the photos using your photo cube.
That’s a great bag! Your work with Ultrasuede is wonderful.
That bag is Ultra Cute!
