I've been playing with this technique for creating books for a while now and I am really pleased with the way it works. A combination of cheesecloth,tissue paper and paint it creates a nice flexible hinge for the covers to move and the texture on the surface is really fabulous.

I picked up a couple of pre-made diary text blocks the last time I ordered book making supplies. I bound the one on the right using a faux leather book cloth and when you hold it in your hand you'd swear was real leather.

I fell in love with this new group of fabrics called "Taxi"by Timeless Treasures so I ordered up a set of fat quarters from Keepsake Quilting. They've been sitting on my work table for weeks until yesterday when I decided to work with them and turn them into a quilted message board:
